The Burly Earl Tavern
Situated in Neverwinter’s bustling Protector’s Enclave, just a short stroll east of the Hall of Justice, The Burly Earl stands proudly on the south bank of the Neverwinter River. This three-story tavern has become a favorite among locals and travelers alike, a place where hearty meals, lively company, and a sense of safety blend seamlessly.
Upon entering, guests are greeted by the tavern’s vast, open space, dominated by a central firepit where Asmund, the tavern’s enigmatic owner, often cooks in full view of his patrons. With high ceilings and carefully placed lighting, the main hall is both inviting and atmospheric. While most areas are well-lit, a few corners are intentionally shadowed, providing a hint of mystery for those who enjoy a more private retreat.
The second and third floors offer reserved quarters and offices, accessible only to invited guests. These rooms serve as quiet retreats for individuals Asmund deems worthy of the tavern’s highest hospitality—a select clientele who appreciate the sense of sanctuary that The Burly Earl provides.
Unknown to most, beneath the tavern lies a secret basement. This hidden level contains a small shrine dedicated to Pelor, a tribute to Asmund’s true identity as Murgen, a former fully trained and powerful life cleric. The basement also holds remnants of his past: carefully guarded treasure troves and powerful magical items from his adventuring days.
The Burly Earl is staffed by a dedicated team of servers, cooks, and bartenders who work tirelessly to maintain its welcoming atmosphere. Standing watch is Bruul, a formidable half-orc bouncer and Murgen’s old friend from his adventuring days. A well muscled and skilled barbarian known for his unshakeable loyalty, Bruul ensures that order prevails within the tavern’s walls.
Open daily from 10 am until midnight, The Burly Earl draws a diverse crowd who comes for the exceptional food, camaraderie, and the unique charm of Neverwinter’s favorite tavern. Whether you’re a weary traveler, a local merchant, or a curious soul seeking warmth and tales, The Burly Earl welcomes you.
