Brass-Eye Korrin

"The paperwork is clean, the shipment is sealed, and the questions are unnecessary."

Overview

Brass-Eye Korrin is a respected Murann wine and spirits merchant whose public reputation masks a carefully curated smuggling empire. To the guilds and most merchants, he’s a supplier of fine coastal liquors, exotic tobaccos, and rare glassware. Behind closed doors, he is the inland gatekeeper for Murann brandy and other high-value contraband that bypasses official tariffs.

Korrin never moves goods himself. He uses a layered network of trusted intermediaries — caravan masters, half-orc dock foremen, and warehouse clerks — to keep his name off manifests and his hands clean.

His strategy is simple: make the legal business shine brightly enough that no one thinks to look in the shadows behind it.

Appearance

Tall and lean, in his late thirties, with bronze skin and a burnished brass prosthetic eye replacing his left. His dark hair is tied back, and his well-tailored travel leathers strike a balance between refinement and readiness. The brass eye catches light at just the right moments, a reminder that nothing escapes his attention. He wears a signet ring engraved with an abstract swirl, his personal seal, and carries a ledger-bound satchel that never leaves his side.

Personality

  • Calculating and Polished. Plans three moves ahead, always courteous — but never soft.
  • Publicly Generous. Sponsors civic festivals and donates to guild charities.
  • Privately Unscrupulous. Uses bribery, blackmail, and theft to maintain control over supply lines.
  • Selective Trust. Keeps a very small circle of personal contacts; most buyers know him only by reputation.

Duties & Influence

  • Guild-Facing Merchant. Legitimate trade in fine Murann brandy, wine, and glassware.
  • Smuggling Syndicate Head. Quiet control over contraband liquor and certain restricted goods.
  • Network Owner. Half-orc agents in Purskul and Athkatla serve as his public-facing buyers and sellers.

Plot Hooks

  • The Invitation. The party gains enough standing for Korrin to offer them a direct meeting.
  • Stolen Casks. A rival intercepts one of Korrin’s brandy shipments — and he offers a rich reward for its recovery.
  • The Tax Crackdown. Guild inspectors threaten to expose one of his “ghost routes” unless someone silences them.
  • Supply Crisis. A bad season in Murann hits brandy production; Korrin scrambles to keep his hold on the market.
