The road continues to surprise me.
While passing through Beregost, I happened upon a man named Landrin. To my surprise, he turned out to be the owner of the house I had cleared of spiders some time ago. I still carried several belongings recovered from the infestation and was finally able to return them to their rightful owner. Landrin was grateful and rewarded me for my efforts. It is a strange thing how unfinished business has a way of finding you when you least expect it.
The reward proved timely. The dangers of the road have been mounting, and every coin is valuable.
I spent some time considering potential companions as well. Two travelers, Jaheira and Khalid, have made it known they are willing to join me. For now, however, I have chosen to continue without them. I am not yet certain what path lies ahead, and I would rather keep my options open until I better understand the challenges before me.
The experiences of recent days have strengthened me considerably. Between the spiders, the battles along the road, and the many dangers I have survived since leaving Candlekeep, I have grown more capable. I can feel my skills improving with each passing day.
Realizing I could use someone with a lighter touch than my own, I set out to find Imoen. I first searched the Friendly Arm Inn, expecting she might have made her way there. When she was nowhere to be found, I backtracked along the Lion’s Way toward Candlekeep. Sure enough, I eventually found my persistent childhood friend making her way north.
Not long after, reality reminded me how dangerous this world truly is. A skeleton attacked us during our travels and struck Imoen hard. The wounds were serious enough that we attempted to rest in the wilderness, but each effort was interrupted by yet more creatures wandering the night. Sleep proved difficult to come by.
Eventually we returned to Beregost to recover properly.
There, another problem found us.
A woman named Silke approached us with a story that quickly unraveled into violence. Whether through deceit or desperation, she sought to manipulate events to her own advantage. Before long, spells and arrows were flying.
Having already learned one hard lesson about hostile mages, I wasted no time. Imoen and I focused our fire before Silke could unleash the full extent of her magic. Even so, she managed to strike us with a powerful bolt of lightning that left us battered and burned. Fortunately, our arrows found their mark first.
When the dust settled, Silke lay dead and we remained standing.
For now, we are resting in Beregost. Our wounds have healed, our equipment is repaired, and our spirits remain strong. Tomorrow we will decide where the road leads next.
One thing is becoming clear.
Leaving Candlekeep was only the beginning.
