Sybarr Spices Company once ruled the southern spice trade in Amn with the wealth and arrogance of a merchant-kingdom. Founded nearly two centuries ago by a trading family of the same name, Sybarr rose to power through aggressive contracts with Zakharan spice ships and exclusive overland rights along the Saerloon Trail. However, its meteoric rise was followed by a long, bitter descent.
After a devastating trade war with the Ophal family, the company fractured. The remaining leadership took steps to protect their holdings by allowing outside families—including the Ulvax and Crytrapper houses—to buy shares and influence. While the company lost much of its independence, it gained enough stability to endure.
Sybarr’s warehouses are still active in Crimmor, Esmeltaran, and Athkatla, with caravan operations extending to Murann and the Lake of Steam. Its name still carries weight—just not the fear it once did.
The company is now led by a board of silent partners, many from noble families, who keep it afloat with private coin and political pressure. It is widely believed that the Crytrappers use Sybarr facilities for storage and covert transport, though no charges have ever stuck. The Ulvax family maintains a 35% stake, giving them significant leverage over Sybarr’s voting structure and pricing models.
Sybarr is still a well-known name, though now associated more with the memory of power than with power itself. Their spice blends—like the famed Firewake Rub and Dusk-Saffron Mix—remain popular, especially among old-guard chefs and inns that prefer traditional Amnian recipes.
