The Stonejaw Company

Hard Knuckles, Hired Blades

Overview

The Stonejaw Company is a half-orc-led band of caravan guards, bounty hunters, and frontier mercenaries headquartered in Purskul. Known for their grit, directness, and zero-patience attitude, the company has earned a reputation as one of the most dependable—if intimidating—protection outfits operating in southern Amn.

Where other groups rely on bluster or polished armor, the Stonejaws bring results. Their reputation has grown from generations of half-orcs born from labor camps and battlefield bloodlines. With ancestral roots in chains and combat, they’ve turned survival into business—and made a point to never be owned again.

Structure and Leadership

The Stonejaw Company is led by Captain Hurgan Krask, a former slave-turned-legionnaire with decades of battlefield experience. Though gruff and uncompromising, Hurgan has a deep sense of loyalty to his own, and a strict code: never betray the job, never abandon a comrade, never serve those who see you as less.

Beneath him, the company is divided into:

Membership skews heavily half-orc, but other races are accepted if they can keep pace.

Troop Numbers and Unit Organization

The Stonejaw Company fields approximately 120 active combatants, not including camp aides, smiths, and animal handlers.

Each unit is outfitted with rugged leathers, metal-reinforced shields, and a mix of axes, spears, and shortbows. Their banners are simple—an iron jaw on black—and are only raised during formal contracts or declarations of retaliation.

Operations and Reach

Stonejaw units can be found guarding trade caravans along the Orc Road, escorting grain shipments through the Small Teeth, or tracking fugitives in the foothills. Their armor is mismatched but functional, and they proudly wear crude iron jaw-shaped buckles as badges of service.

Stonejaw contracts are rarely cheap—but they’re known to accept barter, grain shares, or personal vows in times of need.

Reputation and Philosophy

Though often treated with suspicion in polite society, the Stonejaws carry themselves with pride. Their motto, “We take hits and keep walking,” reflects their worldview: tough, unflinching, and unashamed. They take great offense to being treated as lesser, and tend to solve insults with broken bones.

They are not known for mercy—but if paid and respected, they will die to protect what they’re hired to guard.

Goals and Motivations

The Stonejaw Company exists to uplift and employ those cast aside. Internally, it provides a stable home for many who would otherwise face poverty or persecution. Externally, it aims to expand contracts into the greater Amnian road network and prove that half-orc muscle is not just useful—but essential.

Primary Goal: Dominate mercenary contracting along the southern Trade Way
Secondary Goal: Establish permanent barracks in Imnescar and Trademeet
Long-term Ambition: Formal recognition from Amn’s ruling powers as a state-sanctioned defense corps
